A new gas line, sized and tested for what it feeds.

Gas ranges, cooktops, dryers, tankless heaters, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens and standby generators all need a supply line built for the appliance. Royal Flush Affordable Plumbing designs the route, sizes the pipe, installs the shutoff and pressure tests the line before it is turned on.

  • Texas licensed, RMPL #42403
  • Pressure tested before turn-on

Signs you need this

Six jobs that need a new gas line.

If the appliance burns gas and nothing is plumbed to the spot where it goes, this is the page.

A gas range or cooktop

Switching from electric, or moving the range in a remodel, needs a line to the new location and a shutoff you can reach.

A gas dryer

The laundry room has an outlet for an electric dryer and no gas. We bring the line to the wall and fit the valve.

A tankless or relocated water heater

Tankless units burn more gas at once than a tank heater, and the existing line is often too small for them.

A fireplace or gas log set

A new insert or a log lighter needs its own supply and a valve inside the firebox area, set to the manufacturer rules.

An outdoor kitchen, grill or fire pit

A permanent supply for a built-in grill, side burner or fire feature, routed and protected for the weather.

A standby generator

A home generator on natural gas needs a correctly sized line from the meter side, coordinated with the electrician.

Sized for the load

A line that is too small starves the appliance when you need it most.

Every gas appliance has a rating for how much gas it burns at full power. The pipe has to carry that rating over the distance from the supply, and a long run, a second appliance on the same branch or a tankless heater can turn a line that looked fine into one that starves the burner. We add up the load before we choose the pipe.

Depending on where the line runs we use steel pipe, flexible stainless tubing or buried polyethylene, with supports, sleeves and protection where the pipe passes through walls or ground. The photo shows a tankless unit with its flexible connector and shutoff within reach, the way every appliance line should finish.

  • Load added up firstWe size the pipe for every appliance on the branch, not just the new one.
  • A shutoff at every applianceA valve you can reach, so the appliance can be isolated without turning off the whole house.
  • Pressure testedThe finished line is tested before it is put into service.
How we fix it

A gas line install, start to finish.

Most gas line jobs are a visit to look and price, then a day of work and a test.

Planning a remodel?

Call before the cabinets and drywall go up. Running a gas line to an open wall is far simpler than fishing it through a finished one, and the line can be tested before it is covered.

  1. 1
    Step 1

You tell us the appliance and where it goes

Make and model if you have them, the room or yard location, and where the nearest gas line is. Photos help.

  2. 2
    Step 2

We walk the route and price it upfront

We choose the shortest safe path, check the load, and tell you what the city or county requires. You get one price before anything starts.

  3. 3
    Step 3

We install the line and shutoff

Pipe or tubing suited to the location, supports in the right places, a shutoff valve at the appliance, and a flexible connector rated for it.

  4. 4
    Step 4

We pressure test and show you the shutoff

The line is tested, every joint is checked, and you are shown where to turn the gas off. If an inspection is required, we explain what happens next.

What affects the price

What moves the price of a gas line.

No two gas lines cost the same, so we price after we see the job, never as a guess over the phone. These are the things that decide the number.

Distance and route

The length of pipe and whether it runs through an open attic, inside finished walls, under a slab or across a yard.

Pipe type and size

Decided by the total gas load on the line and how far it has to travel from the supply.

Number of outlets and appliances

One dryer line is a different job from a range, a tankless heater and an outdoor kitchen on one branch.

Permit and inspection

New and altered gas piping normally needs both. What that involves depends on your city or county.

Access and finishing

Opening and closing walls, trenching a yard or crossing a patio adds work compared with an open attic or crawl space.

01How long does a gas line installation take?
A single appliance line with easy access is a short job. Buried runs, finished walls, several outlets and permit inspections add time. We give you the schedule when we price the job.
02Can you run gas to an outdoor kitchen or fire pit?
Yes. We route and protect the line for the location, size it for the burners on it, fit a shutoff, and tell you what the city requires. Do the gas before the patio, countertops and landscaping are finished and the job costs and disrupts far less.
03Do I need a permit and inspection for a new gas line?
Usually yes. New or altered gas piping normally needs a permit and an inspection from the city or county where the property is. When you call, we tell you what applies to your address before the work is scheduled.
04Can I switch an electric dryer, range or water heater to gas?
Yes, if a gas supply can be reached along a safe route. We install the line and the shutoff. The appliance itself must be a gas model, and a gas dryer or water heater also needs correct venting, which we will go over with you.
05Do you also connect the appliance?
Yes. The connection is part of the job, with a shutoff valve and a new flexible connector, and the connection is leak checked. See our gas appliance hookup page for the detail on ranges, dryers, heaters and grills.
