Connected right, so the new appliance does not leak into the room.

Gas ranges, cooktops, dryers, water heaters, tankless units, grills and fire pits all need a shutoff valve, a connector rated for the appliance and a leak check. Delivery crews often leave gas appliances unconnected, and Royal Flush Affordable Plumbing finishes the job.

Signs you need this

Six appliances we connect to gas.

If it burns natural gas and there is a gas line near it, we can connect it. If there is no line yet, we run one first.

Gas ranges and cooktops

The range is pulled out, the old connector removed, a new shutoff and connector fitted, and the connection leak checked before the range is pushed back.

Gas dryers

A gas dryer needs a valve and connector on the gas side. We also tell you what venting the dryer needs to be safe.

Tank and tankless water heaters

Gas connection, shutoff and connector for a new or replacement heater, installed with the water side as one job.

Grills, side burners and fire pits

A permanent connection from the house line or a dedicated outdoor line, with its own shutoff.

Fireplaces and gas logs

Valve and supply for a log set or insert, set to the manufacturer rules for that unit.

Commercial kitchen equipment

Ranges, fryers, ovens and other gas equipment in restaurants and shops connected and leak checked.

The connector matters

The part that fails is usually the connector nobody replaced.

A flexible gas connector is a wear item. It gets bent when the appliance is pushed back, it corrodes in damp rooms, and it is rated for the appliance it came with. Reconnecting a new range with the old connector is one of the most common ways a gas leak starts.

Every hookup we do gets a new connector sized for the appliance, a shutoff valve you can reach, and a leak check on each joint before we leave. The photo shows the finished result on a pair of tankless units: yellow connectors, a valve at each unit, nothing strained.

  • A new connector every timeNever the old one, never one that was sized for a different appliance.
  • A shutoff you can reachSo the appliance can be isolated without turning off the gas to the house.
  • Leak checkedEvery connection is checked before the appliance is put back or turned on.
How we fix it

A gas hookup, start to finish.

Most hookups are done in a single visit when the gas line is already in place.

Buying a gas appliance?

Check that it is a natural gas model before it is delivered. Tell us the make and model when you book and we will bring the right connector and valve, so the hookup is ready when the appliance arrives.

  1. 1
    Step 1

You tell us the appliance and the model

Natural gas model, where it goes, and whether a gas line already reaches the spot. Photos of the wall or floor help.

  2. 2
    Step 2

We check the line and price it upfront

We look at the existing shutoff, the pipe size and the location. If a line has to be extended we say so and price it before starting.

  3. 3
    Step 3

We fit the shutoff and the connector

A new valve if there is none, a new connector rated for the appliance, tightened with the right sealant for gas.

  4. 4
    Step 4

We leak check and show you the shutoff

Each joint is checked, the appliance is connected and supported, and you are shown how to turn the gas off.

What affects the price

What moves the price of a gas hookup.

A hookup with a shutoff already in place is the simplest job. Anything that adds pipe, venting or access adds to the price.

Whether a shutoff and line are already there

An existing valve and a pipe at the right spot is a short job. Adding either is more work.

Connector and valve

Sized to the appliance: a range, a dryer and a tankless heater do not use the same parts.

Access

A heavy range in a tight kitchen, a dryer in a closet or a heater in an attic takes more time to reach and set.

Line extension or resizing

If the pipe is too far away or too small for the appliance, it is extended or resized as part of the job.

More than one appliance

Several appliances on the same visit are cheaper to do together than separately.

Ask a plumber: 281-612-1015
01Can you connect a gas dryer or range I bought myself?
Yes. Make sure it is a natural gas model and tell us the make and model. We supply the shutoff and connector if you do not have them, connect it, leak check it and show you where the valve is.
02My new range came without a gas hose. What do I need?
A flexible gas connector sized for the range and a shutoff valve behind it. We bring both and fit them as part of the hookup.
03Does every gas appliance need its own shutoff valve?
A shutoff valve within reach of each gas appliance is standard practice and is generally required, so the appliance can be isolated without turning off the gas to the whole house. If there is none we add one.
04Can you convert a propane appliance to natural gas?
Conversion kits are specific to each appliance and are installed to the manufacturer instructions. Tell us the make and model when you call and we will say what we can do with it.
05Can you connect an outdoor grill or fire pit to the house gas line?
Yes, if there is a permanent line to connect to or we run one. A hose from the house is not a permanent solution. We can add a dedicated line with its own shutoff for a built-in grill, side burner or fire feature.
